BTC Weekly Signal Breakdown: Reading Confluence Across a Real Trading Week
Every four hours, Strategester recomputes a confluence score for BTC/USDT by checking whether its indicators agree on direction. Most of the time that score sits in the 30s and 40s — noise. Occasionally, on a handful of candles per week, four or more indicators line up within the same few bars and the score spikes past 70. This post walks through what that actually looked like on BTC over the past trading week, and how to read the pattern yourself.
As of this writing, BTC/USDT trades around $62,508, up roughly 1.3% on the day — a mild grind rather than a breakout, which makes it a good week to study because most of the signal action happened mid-week rather than at the extremes.
How the Confluence Score Is Built
Strategester's Live Signal tab scores four indicator families independently, then combines them into a single 0–100 confluence number. Each vector contributes a directional vote — long, short, or flat — weighted by how strong the underlying reading is, not just whether it crossed a threshold.
The four vectors
A score above 60 means at least 4 of the underlying signals agree on direction and the disagreement among the rest is weak, not just outnumbered. A score below 40 usually means the indicators are actively fighting each other — EMA trending up while RSI is rolling over, for example — which is the condition that produces the most false signals if traded blindly.
Wednesday: The Week's Highest-Confluence Signal
Mid-week produced the strongest reading: a confluence score of 82 on the 4h close. Four things happened within the same two candles: the fast EMA crossed above the slow EMA, Supertrend flipped bullish, MACD's histogram turned positive after six bars of contraction, and RSI cleared 55 without ever touching oversold territory beforehand — a sign the prior pullback was shallow, not a trend break.
Trades opened on signals like this are what Strategester's backtest engine is built to evaluate — not by promising a win, but by giving you the historical hit rate for a BTC 4h long entered at 75+ confluence over the last 90 days, alongside the drawdown you'd have carried to get there.
Friday: What a Low-Confluence Reading Looks Like
By Friday the score had dropped to 41. Price had drifted higher, but RSI was diverging — making a lower high while price made a higher high — and volume had fallen to 0.7× the 20-bar average, well under Strategester's default 1.7× volume filter. Supertrend was still technically long, but the ATR band had widened to the point where the trend line was 2.1% below price instead of the tighter 0.8% seen on Wednesday.
Applying This to Your Own Week
You don't need to reconstruct this math by hand. Strategester's Live Signal tab recalculates confluence for BTC, ETH, SOL and BNB continuously across 5m, 15m, 1h and 4h timeframes, with the vector breakdown displayed as four bars so you can see exactly which component is dragging the score down. When you see a reading like Wednesday's 82, cross-check it against the Mix & Backtest tab using the same indicator combination to see how that setup has performed over the last 7, 30, or 90 days on real Bybit candle data before sizing a position.
